Taking Shape - Drywall, So Much Drywall

Drywall As a Journey of Self Discovery
I started hanging drywall in my wife's workshop because I didn't know what I was doing, and it was the best place for me to figure it out. I also realized that for the drywall to go on, you had to make damn sure everything was where it was supposed to be -- this was your last chance to make changes.

The separating wall taking shape really started to give a feel for the two rooms.

These outlets bring the power! I am not good at cutting outlet holes in drywall...

The bottom of this wall was without drywall for so long -- more than 3 years at this point because we tore it out investigating water intrusion.

The drywall for the workshop is nearly all hung. Just keep moving forward!

Some time later, and the wall for the alcove is nearly done -- just the angled wall left to do at this point here.

The workshop is nearly done, but I didn't want to do that last section till I knew I had all the wires run. Also I had to stuff it with insulation. It would be a while before this would get finished.

The backside of the angled alcove wall ain't nothin' pretty, but it does the job.

I paid a plumber to move the water meter. Estimates were all over the place on this work, but thankfully I found a good plumber.

No more bump out, and the meter itself takes up a lot less space into the room.

No more bump out was such a good investment!

Once the angled wall was done, the alcove had taken its final shape.

One more view of the bump-out-less wall, and the messy-ness of supplies that are constantly being shuffled around.

I had to get it cleaned up so I could use the drywall lift to hang the ceiling.

Felt good to get it cleaned up at this point.

The clean would not last long...

Ceiling has started going up!

I could not have done this without the drywall lift! It actually made this job kinda fun.

And now the final wall. I was thrown off by its irregularity, and I had to phone a friend.

I would end up using 1" thick, rigid insulation in the lower section.

Hey, I finally got that insulation stuffed into the HVAC tunnel.

At some point my basement exploded again. You can see the rug got delivered. I'll have to dance around that for a few months.

Last wall framed.

Last wall with drywall hung.

First picture of the theater room.

It's still a mess.

But it's ready for finishing. Yeah, I'll end up paying for that.

Phase 2 complete, and only seven months after phase 1.
